Beall
High is hosting an AFS student this year: Lisa Blasius, from
Grefrath, a small village near Düsseldorf, Germany. Lisa
is living with Beall junior Kristen Davis and her family.
Inspired by friends who had been AFS participants and wanting
to experience another culture, Lisa learned in August that
she would be coming to the United States. Although she has
traveled throughout Europe and Africa, adjusting to life here
was more difficult than she expected. Lisa is trilingual,
speaking German, French, and English, but she found "Americanized"
English difficult to understand. Finding academics here easier
than in Germany, Lisa will repeat her school year when she
returns home. Kristen hopes to visit Lisa in Germany after
graduation.
