With the school year winding down for seniors, many last
minute details are being taken care of. The senior class picture is one

The science research class participated in the Regional
Science Fair at Frostburg State University. Members of the class won 5
first prizes, 2 second prizes, 2 third prizes, 1 special award, and runner-up
to the grand prize winner. To see the complete results for the class click

The official closing of the Beall High gym will be held
on Friday, March 30th beginning at 6:00 pm. Alumni wrestlers, boys basketball
players, and girls basketball players will return to the gym one last
time.

JT Carney set a new Beall record for the indoor mile
with a time of 4:39 at the state meet. He finished 4th overall in the
mile and placed 7th in the 2-mile with a time of 10:28.

The annual Red Cross Blood Drive at Beall brought many
students to the gym, making the blood drive a success.

Art 2, 3, and 4 students captured themselves as 3-D caricatures.
They studied realistic portraitures and caricatures before beginning their

The boys bowling team finished the season in 1st place

Seventeen Beall High cheerleaders competed in the "Reach
the Beach" competition in Ocean City. The squad placed fourth in
the medium varsity novice division.

meeting this month.

The boys basketball team earned a share of the WMIL title
with Fort Hill. They finished with a 20-2 record after a win at Petersburg
to finish the regular season.

Beall High Business Education were successful at the
Region I Competition at South Hagerstown High School afternoon. Kerryanne
Potavin placed 1st in Accounting, Nick Schurg competed in Computer Applications,
Jamie Grove placed 4th in Business Calculations, Conway Gayle placed 4th
in Technology Concepts, Misty Whetstone placed 7th in Word Processing
I, and Tara Ziler placed 7th in Word Processing II. Kerryanne and Nick
will represent Beall High at the Future Business Leaders of America State
competition in March.

Auditions for the spring musical "Fiddler on the
Roof" took place Saturday, January 27th. Bryan Murtha will play Tevye,
Hannah Deprey- Severance will play Golde, Ellen Bell will play Tziezel,
and Becca Kmieciak will play Hodel. To view the complete cast list click

Senior Kierstin Stevenson has been selected as the Cumberland
Times-News Area Player of the Year. She was also voted the WMIL Player
of the Year for leading the Lady Mounties to a 13-3-1 season. Kierstin
was a three time All-Area and three time All-WMIL team selection and the
WMIL 2005 Offensive Player of the Year. The top scorer for the Mountaineers,
she was honored at the Dapper Dan Dinner on January 28th.

Senior night for the boys basketball team is tonight
at Beall. The senior players will be honored before the game. The senior
cheerleaders and Bealls will also be honored at the game.

Area bowling teams will participate in the bowling showcase
on February 17th at the Bowler in LaVale. Girls start at 12:00 and boys
start at 2:00. Awards will be given after the showcase.

The combined Beall High and Westmar High bands were invited
to participate in the Inaugural Parade held in honor of Maryland's new
governor, Martin O'Malley. Fifty-five band members traveled to Annapolis
to participate in the event.

The Beall Soccer team has been voted the Cumberland Times-News
Area Champions. This is the fiftth year the Mounties have been selected
for this honor tying the record for consecutive area titles and setting
the record for soccer. The team was 11-1-1 for the regular season winning
the WMIL title with a 10-0 record.

The Beall High Mountaineers and the Northern Huskies
were recently voted the Cumberland Times-News Area Girls Soccer Co-Champions.
The tie gives the Lady Mounties its second area title in four years. The
team's 13 victories set a school record. The previous record of 12 season
wins were set by the 2001,2002, and 2003 teams. The team,coached by Martha
Mauzy, had an area high nine shutouts and was honored at the Dapper Dan
Dinner on January 28th.

Students returned to school today for the first time
this week after having Monday and Tuesday off due to below zero temperatures.
Wednesday was parent conference day.

The Student Council is sponsoring a Sweetheart Dance on February 10th
from 7:30 to 10:30 pm in the school cafeteria. The dress is semiformal
and tickets cost $5. Tickets will be sold on all lunch shifts. Guest permission
forms need to be turned in to Mr. Davis by Feb. 5th.

it our first 2-hour delay for Allegany County Public Schools.

Members of the Mock Trial Team confer with their coach

There will be an Organizational Meeting on Wednesday,
January 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Hospital Auditorium for
any one between the ages of 15 to 20 interested in a career in the Health
Occupations field. There is a one time membership fee of $7 and meetings

Junior and Senior members of the Prom Committee have
been meeting to plan the final Prom for Beall High which will be held
May 12th in the Lane Center at Frostburg State University. The theme
this year will revolve around fairytales, clocks, and castles.

Basketball coach Bob Nelson is shown with his son,
Tanner, a current member of the team. The varsity team is recognizing
basketball alumni during the months of January and February. On January
5th, during the home game against Westmar, players from the 1940's,
50's, and 60's were admitted free to the game and recognized between
the jv and varsity games. Basketball alumni will also be presented a
Beall alumni T-shirt compliments of Armstrong Insurance. On January
20th, basketball alumni from the 1970's will be honored, on February
3rd, alumni from the 1980's will be recognized, and on February 16th,
alumni from 2000 on will be honored.

Students in Mr. DeRosa's Earth Science classes recently
went on a field trip to Kline's Gap Cave near Petersburg, West Virginia
to study the delicate ecology of caves, especially bats, whose numbers
have been greatly lessened since a fire in the cave. Mr. Gerhard also
accompanied the group.

The mild winter weather has enabled the indoor track
team to practice at FSU in preparation for their relay meet on Friday.

Art 2, 3, and 4 students analyzed their outstanding

last year of high school. Graduation is June 1st for this year's seniors.

with seven members of the group creating original holiday designs. Mandy

With temperatures in the 60's, students haven't had
to check for school delays or closings. According to the weekly forecast,
it won't be a white Christmas in Frostburg this year.

candy cane fundraiser. Over 1800 candy canes were sold, organized, and
distributed by the student staff under the direction of advisor, Mrs.
Shaw.

WCBC singing songs of the season to be heard on the radio station. The

The James E. Spitznas Chapter of the National Honor
Society held its induction ceremony Friday, December 8, 2006. 37 students

Stadium have been erected. The new stadium sits behind the current Beall
High School.

Members of the Beall High Choir were selected to perform
in the 2006 Candlelight Processional at Epcot in Walt Disney World.
This is only the second time the choir has performed at Disney.

With the completion of a new path to Beall from the
student parking lot, the former tennis court, students now have a shorter
walk from their cars to the school.

Senior Kierstin Stevenson has been selected as the
Times-News Area Student-Athlete of the Month. A three year starter on
the soccer team, she was voted the 2005 WMIL Offensive Player of the
Year. Kierstin also plays point guard on the basketball team and advanced
to the State Track Championships as a pole vaulter. A member of the
National Honor Society, she has a 4.05 grade point average.

The Beall and Westmar Cheerleaders recently performed
together at half time in the final homecoming football game. The squads
met while attending the same summer camp.

The AP Environmental Science class recently went canoeing
on the Monocacy River. The students also completed macroinvertebrate
analysis, chemical analysis, and physical analysis.

The Allegany County All County Chorus will perform
in the Beall High Auditorium Thursday, November 16th at 7 p.m. The concert
is open to the public. No admission will be charged.

The football team defeated Westmar 43-7 Friday evening
at FSU in the final Homecoming game between the two teams. The team
ended the season 7-2. The Mounties, who are ranked 4th in the Class
1A West Region, will travel to Greenway Avenue Stadium Friday to take
on #1seeded Fort Hill Sentinels. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Homecoming Spirit Week concluded Friday with Blue &
Gold Day. Students showed their colors head to toe with uniforms, vintage
shirts, and face paint. The day ended with a schoolwide pep rally in
the gym where awards were given to the most spirited students and class.
The senior class won the Spirit Award.

The 2006 Beall High Homecoming Court will participate
in the annual Homecoming parade in Cumberland on Wednesday at 7:00.
The band, cheerleaders, and Belles will also be featured in the parade.

The Beall High Cheerleaders are busy preparing for
the pep rally to be held Friday in the gym. All students will attend
the pep rally and the most spirted class will be selected.

Spirit Week is nearly over as you can see the pride
of being a Mountaineer reflected through students creative mountie outfits.
Blue and Gold Day is on Friday as well as the pep rally and the final
Beall Homecoming game.

From the 50's to the 90's, students enjoyed dressing
up for Decade Day. Thursday is Mountaineer Day and Friday is Blue &
Gold Day with Homecoming Festivities concluding with a pep rally Friday
afternoon and the Final Homecoming Game Friday evening at FSU.

The first day of Homecoming Spirit Week, Twin Day,
found many students and faculty joining in the fun. From father daughter

This week is Red Ribbon Week promoting abstinence from
drugs and alcohol. The ribbons will be worn all week long to share an
awareness of a drug free lifestyle.

Senior Tanner Nelson, a member of the Beall High golf team, qualified
for the Class 2A/1A State Tournament to be held at the University of
Maryland golf course. He will compete in an 18 hole semifinal round
on October 24th. Qualifiers from the semifinal round will compete in
the finals on October 25th.

The girls soccer team ended their regular season with a victory over Allegany
1-0 yesterday, clinching at least a share of the WMIL Championship. They
finish the season with a record of 11-2-1. they will play their first
game of the playoffs on Tuesday, October 31st.

The scenery continues to change behind Beall as the
leaves turn autumn colors and the new football field begins to take
shape.

The Beall High Soccer Team captured the WMIL Championship
with a 4-0 victory over Fort Hill at FSU. Ranked #1 in the area, the
Mounties took the title with a 8-0 record in the league. Now 9-1-1 overall,
Beall will host Southern Wednesday night at FSU.

Seniors Rob Rumburg and Laura Connor were chosen by student body election
as the 2006 Beall High School Homecoming King and Queen. They will serve
as the final Beall High Homecoming Royalty and will be crowned at the
home football game against Moorefield, Friday, October 6th.

Comedy makes a return to the stage of Beall High with the fall production
of You Can't Take it With You, which was performed 20 years
ago by Beall Students on the stage of the Palace Theater during renovation.
Performances are October 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM and again on October
15th at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.

Mrs. Shaw's 2nd period AP English students demonstrated
their creativity in their projects about the French Revolution as portrayed
in A Tale of Two Cities.
Wayne Nicol has been appointed principal of Beall High
School for the 2006/2007 school year. He replaces Greg Smith who recently
retired. Mr. Nicol, who previously served as principal of Westmar High
School, has also been selected as the first principal of Mt. Ridge High
School scheduled to open next year. Joe Carter will continue in his role
of Vice Principal at Beall with Gary Davis serving as an Administrative
Assistant and Athlectic Director for the current school year.

Beall senior Pat Winebrenner runs the ball against
Frankfort during Friday night's game at FSU. The Mounties defeated the
Falcons 6-0 to improve their record to 3-1. The team will host Moorefield
Friday night, October 6th.

The environmental science classes, under the direction
of Mr. Kozikowski, have begun recycling paper. Boxes have been placed
in each classroom and are picked up every Wednesday by the students involved
in the project. This is the second year for the project. Last year in
the fourth quarter alone, approximately 5250 pounds of paper were collected.
This years goal is 20,000 pounds. For a list of acceptable recyclable

The Physics classes were recently challenged to move
in a manner that was represented by different graphs. The students moved
in front of a motion sensor to try and copy the graph in their movements.
The team who most closely matched the graphs won.
Mrs. Julie Gary has joined the Beall High Staff as a
half-day foregin language teacher. She will be at Beall each morning teaching
Spanish I and Spanish II.

Wade Robinson, a sophmore at Beall, had his artwork selected
for the front cover of the Allegany County Board of Education 2006/2007
school year calendar. The digital image which was designed using Photoshop
also won 1st place in the Maryland Board of Education note card contest.

Mrs. Scotty Imhoff has joined the Beall High staff this year as a Physical
Education and Health Teacher. Mrs. Imhoff graduated from Frostburg State
University. She began her teaching career at Frost and George's Creek
Elementary Schools and has spent the last five years teaching in Salisbury.

Christina Artizmateo from Madrid, Spain is one of Beall
High's two foreign exchange students this year. She speaks both Spanish
and German and is brushing up on her English. Her hobbies are tennis and
the cinema.

Mr. Rick Krauss has joined the Beall High staff this
year as a special education assistant. Mr. Krauss graduated from Frostburg
State with a degree in Philosophy and Computer Science. He was a substitute
teacher in the county for 3 years.

The 2006 Beall High Band has been rehearsing its fall
show "Broadway Evolution" which will be debuted at the first
home football game September 8th against Catoctin at Frostburg State University.
The show features songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story,
and Les Miserables. The 2006 Drum Major is senior Chris Ackerman.

Cynthia Ibarra from Ensenada, Mexico is one of Beall High's
two foreign exchange students for the 2006-2007 school year. Cynthia became
a foreign exchange student to improve her English and to experience life
in the United States. She enjoys soccer, dancing, writing and reading.
In the future she plans to learn more languages.

Mrs. Marsha Smith has joined the Beall High faculty as
a Guidance Counselor, replacing Mr. John "Slug" Armstrong, who
recently retired. A Beall graduate, Mrs. Smith served as the Guidance
Counselor at Westmar High School and Valley High School for the past 20
years.

Beall High's 2006 Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Joan Campbell.
A former member of the Mount Savage High School faculty, she teaches geometry
at Beall and also serves as the senior class advisor.

Commencement for the Class of 2006 was held June 1st
on the campus of Frostburg State University. The 179 graduates were presented
their diplomas by Board of Education members Enordo "Moose"
Arnone and Tom Striplin. Senior class president Derek Dye was the class
speaker. This was the One Hundred and Ninth Annual Beall High School Commencement
The Beall High 4x800 relay team celebrates their second
consecutive State Championship with Coach Norm Derosa. The team set a
new 1A state record with a time of 8.06.36. Members of the team are Matt
Derosa, Mike Negley, Adam Sommers, and Adam Eshleman.

Senior Matt DeRosa has been selected as the Times-News
Area Student Athlete of the Month. Matt is a two time state champion as
a member of both the 2005 and 2006 4 x 800 relay teams. He was also a
member of the cross country team which finished 2nd in the state. Matt
has a 4.14 grade point average and will be attending the Rochester Institute
of Technology in the fall.

Due to construction, the annual picnic for seniors usually
held in the stadium took place on the west side of the building. Students
were treated to hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by Ms. Kreiling and her
staff.

The annual Spring Art show was recently held in conjunction
with the band and choral concerts. Display winners included Katie Clark,
1st place, Abby Powell, 2nd place, and Bobby Croft, 3rd place.

English students participated in the Shakespeare Festival
held at Frostburg State University. Mrs. Michaels' freshmen students presented
Act I, Scene I from Romeo and Juliet. Mrs. Shaw's senior English
students portrayed Act 3, Scene 4 of Macbeth. Student advisors
Molly Ness and Becky Haught from FSU have been working with the students
this semester to prepare them for their presentations.

entries at the MICCA conference on May 4-6 and at the Board of Education
meeting on May 8.

The 2006 Beall High Yearbook, The Mountaineer,
was delivered to the school recently. Its theme "Out of Place"
reflects a year of changes, including the demolition of the Beall High
Stadium.

Physics students recently attended Hershey Park's Physics
Day where they conducted experiments testing the physical forces of the
park's thrill rides. The students were accompanied by their physics teacher
Mr. Kozikowski.

The Spring Arts Show will be held this week. The Art
Show and Vocal Concert will be Tuesday, May 16th. The Art Show will open
at 6:00 in the gym with the Vocal Concert at 7:00 in the auditorium. The
Art Show will continue on Wednesday, May 17th with the Band Concert at
7:30 Wednesday in the auditorium. No admission will be charged for the
concerts and the art show.

The Beall High cheerleading competition team recently
competed with the American Cheer and Dance Academy at The Six Flags of
America Spring Spectacular. The team brought home a first-place trophy
for its routine which consisted of a cheer, dance, jumps, and tumbling.

Seventeen Beall High Seniors recently attended the Allegany
County Accolades Dinner to be honored for their academic and artistic
achievements. The banquet was held at the Frostburg State University Lane
Center and awards were presented by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William
Aumiller.

The Beall High recycling program collected 1,670 pounds
of paper this week to bring the grand total to 2,144 pounds for its
first month. Recycling bins can be found in each classroom and are emptied
by environmental science classes every Wednesday.

The University of Maryland Physics Olympics was held
on Saturday at College Park. Over 200 teams from Maryland, Virginia, and
DC were invited. Of the 20 highly competitive teams selected to participate,
Beall’s Team placed 3rd and won high honors for their efforts. Competition
skills included projectile launching, bridge building, optical arranging,
solar heating, balloon-car design, egg protection, and laser aiming. The
team members prepared for the past four months, spending many hours beyond
the school day.

The Beall High Band recently traveled to New York City
for the annual band trip. They visited many landmarks and attended two
musical productions. The band also participated in the Maryland State
Band Festival Wednesday, in which they received a "2" rating.

recently held a Senior Citizen Prom at the The Culinaire Cafe in Cumberland.

Beall High's production of Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat will be held on April 27th, 28th, and 29th
at 7:30 in the Auditorium. A Matinee showing will be held on Sunday, April
30th at 3:00. Admission will be charged.

Students in Mrs. Campbell's Geometry classes participated
in a marathon to aid the St. Jude Children's Hospital, a leading center
for the study of childhood cancer. Beall students raised $525 for this
cause. Ryan Bailey was the leading fundraiser with $125.

Prom committee members have been working on decorations
for the Beall Junior-Senior Prom, which will be held May 13th at the Frostburg
State University Lane Center. The theme for this year's prom is Las Vegas:

The American Eskimo Spitz puppy who lived at the Mountain
Ridge High construction site for two weeks has found a home and has been
appropriately named Ridge. He joins the web staff in wishing everyone
an enjoyable spring break.

Honors English class prepare for Frostburg State University's
annual Shakespeare Festival. They will perform a scene from

are sponsoring a paper recycling program for teachers and
students. The program will continue throughout the remainder
of the school year. Recycling boxes will be found in every
classroom beginning Thursday.

The band received a superior rating at the
Regional Band Adjudication recently at Frostburg State University.
They will advance to the Maryland State Band Festival at Morgan
State in Baltimore at the end of April.

Beall senior Derek Dye is featured on the current issue
of nextSTEP magazine as one of 20 Super Teens. Selected
by the magazine staff from hundreds of applications from
high school students in the Mid-Atlantic region, Derek has
served as class president for four years. Copies of the
magazine are available in the library and the guidance office.

PJ Dick Corporation's Supervisor, Doug Brown,
and Safety Director, Dave Siebaugh, instruct students in the
proper use of safety equipment. Students from Mr. Buckalew's
Construction II and Mr. DeVore's Intro to Tech classes were
given a hands-on demonstration of how this safety equipment
works and its importance. Students in both classes will be
visiting the Mountain Ridge High School construction site
regularly.

the Allegany County Women's Commission. She received her nomination
for her development of the kidSmarts program to educate children
and parents in making smart choices in emergency situations.

Anyone interested in trying out for Belles
next year should attend the informational meeting Thursday March
16th at 5 pm in Ms. Linn's Room #106. New for the 2006-2007
year is the introduction of two separate spring and winter teams.
Those wishing to try out for either team must attend tryouts
March 27-30.

classes have been issued their own green hard hats to wear when
they visit the construction site for Mountain Ridge High School.
Class members have been getting daily updates on the progress
of the new building from the construction crew.

Roman calendar and was the standard way to say March 15. The
soothsayer's warning to Shakespeare's Julius Caesar to "Beware

Junior John Robinett recently placed first
in Computer Applications at the Future Business Leaders of America
Region 1 Competition, competing against students from four Western
Maryland counties. Business teacher Mrs. Sandy King is the FBLA
advisor.

Senior Chris Lindeman has been named the Times-News
Area Student Athlete of the Month for March. He has been a three-year
starter on the wrestling team and recently placed 4th in the
Maryland 1A/2A Tournament. Chris also plays football and is

The Beall High faculty has selected Mrs. Joan
Campbell as the 2006-2007 Teacher of the Year. A math teacher
with over 30 years of experience, she currently teaches geometry
and is a Senior class advisor.

in the Potomac State College production of Cats. The

of Student Councils Executive Board Meeting where positions
on educational bills currently pending in the state legislature
were debated. Students attending the event also had an opportunity

Wrestling Finals 1A/2A on Friday and Saturday at the University

Dreamcoat continue rehearsals for the show, which will be
held April 27th through April 30th in the Beall High School Auditorium.

The girls bowling team defeated seven area schools
to capture the Actual and Adjusted Champion titles at the Showcase
Tournament Saturday at White Oak Lanes. The team finished their
season with a 9-5 actual and 8-6 adjusted record.
Helping Others

Members of the SHOP organization recently conducted
a fundraiser for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for
Patients program, which raises money to find cures for blood cancers
and helps patients with these diseases. Over a three-week period,
the students raised over $500 through donation boxes in home room
classes.

forms to students interested in taking the exams in May. Registration
papers and payments are due to teachers by February 28th.

Beall High School recently received a $4,000 grant
from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for archery equipment.
The grant allowed the school to purchase 11 bows, two multiple bow
stands, four targets and five dozen arrows to be used in physical
education classes. Beall was one of only seven schools in Maryland
to receive the equipment.

Seniors Brittany Cooper and Luke Garton have both
had essays selected for publication in the Sunday edition of the
Cumberland Times-News. Each week the newspaper staff selects an
essay written by an area student. Brittany's essay was the first
to be published and Luke's will appear in the Editorial section
of the February 12th edition. Both are students in the AP English
class taught by Mrs. Shaw, who submitted the essays for consideration.

The annual end of semester locker cleanout was
held this morning, forcing students to clean out accumulated waste
from the first half of the school year.

Beall senior Tasha Wilhelm was recently voted the
Cumberland Times-News High School Girls Soccer Player of the Year
by area coaches. She has been a four-year starter and was voted
Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and ranks #2 in career
goals and assists at Beall and is #1 in career scoring average.
She received her award during the 58th annual Dapper Dan Awards
Banquet.

Senior Abby Powell looks at patterns and fabric
to create the Dreamcoat for "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat," which is this year's spring musical production.

A schoolwide reading program
will began February 6th and will continue through
May 9th. During 4-1 study hall on specified days,
both students and faculty will devote the thirty
minutes to reading. The goal of this program is
to give students the opportunity to become lifelong
readers.

The Indoor Track team held a
car wash last Saturday, Jan. 28 at Armstrong Insurance
in Frostburg. They washed cars for donations to
cover their expenses for buses. The team raised
$500.00 and the fundraiser lasted for three hours.
Another car wash is being planned in the upcoming
weeks.

The AP Chemistry class recently
visited the Frostburg State University Chem Lab
to study the effects of kinetics on the rate of
a reaction. Dr. Larivee also demonstrated several
instruments that could be used to analyze evidence
in criminal investigations.

class recently tested water samples from ten local
bodies of water. Students tested the samples for
pH, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate, nitrogen,
and other characteristics.

Toys for Happiness program at the Country Club
Mall on Decmber 6, 2005. They assisted by wrapping

Members of the Beall High Choir
performed at City Place as part of the Story Book
Holiday festivities held Saturday on Main Street
in Frostburg. The Choir will also be singing for
the retired Allegany County Teachers' Luncheon
at Maple Hurst.

Fifty-one students were recently
inducted into the James E. Spitznas Chapter
of the National Honor Society. The ceremony
was held in the auditorium and attended by the
student body, faculty, and parents. This was
the 50th annual Induction Ceremony at Beall
High School.

The varsity football team defeated
Boonsboro Friday night 29-7 in the first round
of the Western Region Class 1A playoffs. The Mounties,
who are seeded 2nd with a 9-2 record, will play
#1 ranked Allegany for the Regional Championship
Friday night, November 25th, at Greenway Avenue
Stadium at 7:00pm. Game tickets are $5.00 and
are on sale in the main office until noon Wednesday.

Senior Mark Bowling was
elected as student musician of the month
by NBC25. Mark has been in choir since the
9th grade and has had lead roles in "Anything
Goes" and "Oklahoma!" He
has been a featured soloist with the choir
and serves as its president. Congratulations
to Mark for this accomplishment.

Lindeman have been elected Beall High's
2005 Homecoming Queen and King. Beall's
Homecoming dance will be held Saturday,
November 5th and the Homecoming game will
be Friday, November 11th.

Following the surprise snow
storm and regional school closing on October
25th, students and teachers came back to a
mess. The construction area is covered with
mud due to the dirt-melted snow mix.

Beall senior Melissa Stevens
will be competing in the Maryland Class 1A
State Semifinal golf tournament Tuesday at
the University of Maryland College Park Golf
Course. This will be her second year participating
in the tournament.

Due to construction, traffic
patterns in and out of Beall High School will
change as soon as the paving of new parking
lots in front of the building is completed.

Students from Mr. Kozikowski's
AP Environmental Science class visited AES Warrior
Run and the Meyersdale Wind Energy Site to learn
about the differences between coal and wind
energy. They also hiked to the area on the ridge
of Backbone Mountain where a wind energy site
has been proposed. The class will develop an
opinion regarding the proposed site and write
a letter to the Public Service Commission.

As work begins on the construction
of the new Mountain Ridge High School, the pine

Senior Class President Derek
Dye and members of Tri-Hi-Y present a check in
the amount of $2,750.00 to Mrs. Sharon Koch, a
representative of the American Red Cross, to aid
those affected by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina.
Mrs. Koch has just returned from three weeks of
disaster relief in Mississippi. The senior class,
Tri-Hi-Y, and Hi-Y combined efforts to collect
donations from the faculty and student body.

Allegany 1-0 with the game-winning goal scored by
Matt Fiorita. The next game is October 8th against

Changes are becoming visible
in the Beall High Stadium as backhoes rolled onto
the field, removed the goal posts, and began taking
down fences Monday. As more equipment is brought
in and construction continues, student and teacher
parking will change.

Art teacher Sue Baker talks with

Day of the school year. Over 150 parents visited
the school to meet with faculty members.

Thailand native Sandi (Wi lasinee)
Sittisomboon is Beall High's newest foreign exchange
student. A senior, Sandi is used to the hot temperatures
of Thailand and already thinks that Frostburg is too
cold. She enjoys her host family and the independence
of being away from home. It is important to her to
improve her English and gain new experiences. Sandi's
career goal is to become a doctor.

Senior Katie Clark spent five weeks
of her summer touring with 45 other student members
of Youth With A Mission. The group traveled to Sweden,
Russia, Finland, and Norway ministering through
hip-hop and dramas. She was the only student from
Maryland in the group. The photo was taken on Gotland,
an island in the middle of the Baltic Sea.

Beall's Tri-Hi-Y/Hi-Y and Student Council
have joined forces in conjunction with the American
Red Cross to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Current Donation Total: $2500

Ms. Jennifer Yost is the newest addition
to the Beall High English Department. She is a graduate
of West Viginia University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree
in English and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education.
This is her first year teaching and her students are
her favorite part of her job.

Tom Kozikowski is the newest face in the Beall High science
department. He is in his fifth year of teaching and holds
a bachelor's degree from Goucher University in Chemistry
Education. Mr. Kozakowski is now working on his master's
at Montana State in Physics Education.

selected as the Beall High School Teacher of the Year
by her colleagues. A member of the faculty since 1978,

Garton, Melissa Stevens, Derek Dye, and Abby Powell, interviewed
Mrs. Grace Bittner, who is a 1927 graduate of Beall High

chair. Mrs. Bittner shared her memories as a student and
as a faculty member.

Beall High athletic teams had a successful
year with the Cross Country, Boy's Soccer, and Baseball
Teams winning State Championships. Five individual titles
were won by members of the Cross Country and Track Teams.
Senior Dan DeWitt captured the State Individual Cross
Country Title as well as four individual state track titles.
